Skye Slade

While I grew up in the Chicagoland area, I am a recent graduate of Oberlin College in Ohio with a B.A. in Psychology and Politics. I thrive in group settings, and have enjoyed working in research labs and taking on leadership roles on campus to take advantage of my liberal arts education. Much of my time in research has been focused on Asian-American psychology and the psychology of Multiracial experiences, as well as experience working in an EEG lab studying facial perception and recognition. The overlap between my psychological and political backgrounds offers me a unique perspective on many social issues, which I am incredibly grateful for. I was also fortunate to be co-chair of the Psychology Majors Committee for two years, which gave me plenty of leadership and planning experience in representing the largest major on campus. Beyond the classroom, I swam at the varsity level for the first two years of college, but ultimately decided that I preferred my time spent pursuing research interests.

This past summer, I worked at Applewood Centers, an inpatient youth mental health clinic in Cleveland, as a Treatment Specialist. This opportunity allowed me to develop my skills in patient care and crisis intervention, as well as giving me a bit more direction regarding the populations I might like to work with in the future. I plan on taking time between undergrad and graduate school to focus on developing my strength in patient care, but I ultimately plan to pursue a Master's degree in social work in the next two years. ​
